Envinate Albahra 2022 (750ML)
Envínate (“wine yourself”) is the brainchild of Laura Ramos, Jose Martínez, Roberto Santana and Alfonso Torrente, four friends who met while studying winegrowing at the University of Miguel Hernández in Alicante. Their work, both in the vineyard and winery, is currently focused on exploring the ancient, Atlantic-infused terruños of Ribeira Sacra and the Canary Islands, as well as exceptional vineyard plots across the Iberian Peninsula. The Envínate philosophy is simple: let each parcela, or single parcel, fully express itself in the finished wine by utilizing old-fashioned farming and winemaking methods. The results are some of the most exciting wines being produced in Spain today.
Albahra (named for the vineyard location, and meaning “small sea”) comes from a single vineyard divided into 3 parcels at 800 meters elevation in the Almansa region, around the town of Albacete. Almansa is located at the southeastern tip of Castilla-La Mancha. Garnacha Tintorera, also known as Alicante Bouschet, is a hybrid of the Garnacha and Petit Bouschet grapes. It is one of the few red grapes with dark colored juice, hence the name Tintorera, or tinted. As expected this grape produces wines with dark color, but also juicy/spicy flavors and a pronounced acidity.
Fermented 50% whole cluster with wild yeasts in 4500 liter cement vats, with soft pigeage and a short maceration of 7 days. Raised in the same vats for 8 months, and bottled with very little SO2 addition. This is an extremely versatile food wine, especially with Mediterranean meats and seafood.
